How to Find Your Windows 8 License Key.
If you need to perform a fresh installation of Windows 10 on a home computing PC that had Windows 8 on it, you will need to find the license key. This will also be the case if you need to move the operating system to another computer.
On previous editions of Windows, you could find that product key in the OS packaging or on a sticker attached to the PC that the OS shipped with. With Windows 8, that’s not the case. The product key is stored in the computer’s BIOS, and you will need to use a utility to find it.
With the product key, you can then perform a fresh installation of Windows 10, or reinstall that copy of Windows 8 on a new computer. All you have to do is enter the code when asked during the installation process. Getting it out of the original PC is the tricky part.
There are several tools you can use to find the code, but a useful free tool is Belarc Advisor (http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html). This can find out all sorts of useful information stored on your PC.
